THE THREE CHAMBERS
The church's form, three petals blooming from the ground, symbolizes the Holy Trinity, with each petal forming a prayer chamber, retaining its monumental nature.

BEING CONSCIOUS
Our preoccupation with devices and distractions detaches us from our environment. Architecture must resuscitate us from this unconscious state, reconnecting us to space through a cathartic transformation.

REIMAGINING THE CATHOLIC CHURCH
This project reimagines the modern Catholic church, addressing environmental overstimulation that hinders focus. By analysing existing churches, key elements are reconfigured to create a progression from oppressive to introspective space.

OPPRESSIVE
Upon entering, worshippers are greeted by two arms extending from the main chamber, invoking awe and respect.

INTROSPECTIVE
. In the main chamber, the gentle unfurling of the petal funnels light to the altar. This contrast of light with raw dark concrete silences distractions, focusing attention on God. These transitions engage both the mind and body sensually and induce a reflective state in the worshipper.

SITE - CHURCH OF THE HOLY CROSS
As a Sunday Catholic, my experience during service is a constant struggle to find peace. Church of the Holy Cross was the main site of analysis in picking out issues in its configuration that contribute to this lack of peace in a formal space.
